Hurricane Florence continues to head northwest toward the Carolina coastline. The Category 4 storm, which by definition have winds between 130 and 156 mph, is expected to make landfall Friday with sustained winds close to 140 mph. Tropical force winds should reach the Carolinas by early Thursday morning. Rainfall totals could exceed 25 or 30 inches and coastal flooding should be quite extensive. In Connecticut, Florence may eventually cause some showers by the end of next week, but by then the circulation will have collapsed and thus wind and heavy rainfall is not a concern.
