Former UConn defensive back Byron Jones, whose world-record broad jump at the NFL combine helped make him the first-round draft pick of the Cowboys in 2015, will have his fifth-year option picked up by the team, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The former Husky will also switch positions, returning to his natural cornerback after beginning his NFL career as a safety, per multiple reports.
Rapoport tweeted the contract news early Sunday. Jones will make a guaranteed $6.17 million in 2019, the fifth and final season of his rookie deal. Rapoport added that Jones “should benefit from a full-time move to corner.”
