Tyrone Gayle, a Democratic campaign staffer who logged thousands of miles as a driver for then-U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine in 2012, was a spokesman for Hillary Clinton during her 2016 run for the White House and at the time of his death was press secretary to Sen. Kamala Harris of California, died Oct. 25 at a hospital in New York City. He was 30.
The cause was colon cancer, said his father, Michael Gayle. Gayle was diagnosed with cancer in March 2016 and was successfully treated before suffering a relapse last year.
Gayle was described as making an outsized impact on the campaigns and causes he served over the eight years since he had graduated from college.
