Maryland Named Top Seed For NCAA Lacrosse Tournament, Yale No. 3

Yale, after being upset by Cornell in the Ivy League championship game, is the No. 3 seed for the NCAA men’s lacrosse tournament. The Bulldogs (13-3) open at home Saturday at noon against UMass (12-4).

Defending champion Maryland (12-3) is the top seed and will host the winner of Wednesday’s play-in game between Robert Morris and Canisius.

Seeded second is Albany (14-2), followed by No. 4 Duke (13-3), No. 5 Johns Hopkins (11-4), No. 6 Loyola Maryland (12-3), No. 7 Notre Dame (9-5) and No. 8 Syracuse (8-6).

The rest of the field features Richmond (11-5), Villanova (10-5), Big East champion Georgetown (12-4), Virginia (12-5), Denver (12-3) and Ivy League champion Cornell (12-4).

The Maryland women also are the top seed in their tournament, which begins Friday.

In the Division III men’s tournament, Wesleyan (14-3) will open at 4 p.m. Wednesday at home against SUNY Cortland (12-6).

In the Division III women’s tournament, Trinity (11-6) will host the winner of Saturday’s first-round game between Elms College and Springfield College on Sunday. The Elms-Springfield game will also be in Hartford. The Wesleyan women (10-6) will play Messiah in the first round Saturday in Rochester, N.Y. The times of the Trinity and Wesleyan women’s games have yet to be determined.
