It was baptism by baggage claim. Mike Anthony had jumped into the UConn women’s beat with both feet — and thankfully he was wearing some presentable shoes as he awaited the late arrival of his luggage last week, his first with these Huskies.
Stranded for three days in Greenville, N.C., as a Nor’easter wreaked havoc on travel up and down the East Coast, Anthony had plenty of news and notes to unpack from his “breathless, sleepless journey” on the latest episode of the UConn Insider podcast.
He discusses his dealings with Geno Auriemma over the years (2:00) and how his press conferences differ from Jim Calhoun’s (7:00); the pointed comments aimed at Azura Stevens after the Huskies looked sloppy at times against UCF (8:30); his impressions of the women’s game now that he’s had a courtside seat and how it compares to the men’s game (13:00); and the binge-worthy TV series that helped him survive the hotel-room blues (22:00).
Anthony, whose other beat is UConn football, wraps things up by breaking down what Rhett Lashlee’s departure means for the Huskies (27:00).
