UConn and Syracuse, those two old and fierce Big East rivals, will meet for the fourth season in a row in nonconference play.

Both invited to play in the 2K Classic, which benefits the Wounded Warrior Project, the Huskies and Orange will play in the semifinal round of the event at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 15, as part of a doubleheader that starts at 7 p.m. UConn will play either Oregon or Iowa on Nov. 16, in a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m.

UConn will also play two “regional games” at home as part of its association with the 2K Classic, Morehead State on Nov. 8 and Missouri-Kansas City on Nov. 11, but it has not yet been determined which home games will be played at Gampel Pavilion or the XL Center.

Syracuse and UConn last played as Big East opponents in 2013. Since the conference broke up, Syracuse going to the ACC and UConn to the American Athletic Conference, they have played in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas in November 2015, a Syracuse win; at Madison Square Garden in December 2016, a UConn victory; and last December in the Garden in the Jimmy V Classic, Syracuse winning. Syracuse holds a 56-38 edge in games played vs. UConn, including 9-7 in games at Madison Square Garden.

UConn played in the 2K Classic in 2013, beating Boston College and Indiana at Madison Square Garden, a precursor to the national championship that capped that season. This will be the first UConn-Syracuse experience for new coach Dan Hurley, but he is well familiar with Big East tradition, having played at Seton Hall.

The Huskies 2018-19 nonconference schedule will be strong and feature a strong East Coast and New York presence. They will play defending national champ Villanova at The Garden as part of the three-year series agreement between the schools, and Florida State at the Prudential Center in Newark as part of the Never Forget Games on Dec. 8. UConn has a nonconference home game against Arizona slated for the XL Center.
