Improvements continued apace this week at the XL Center arena in advance of a Tom Petty concert Sept. 13. The $35 million renovation project began in earnest early this summer and won't be substantially finished until the first week of October, in time for the start of the 2014 Wolf Pack and UConn hockey seasons. But the work has progressed to the point that the concert can go on as scheduled. When completed, the XL Center will have a new bar area inside the arena, luxury seating lower in the bowl, and other upgrades to the concourse, locker rooms and mechanical systems.
