A new political action committee dedicated to helping Democrats build their bench is backing 31 women running for local office this year.
Formed in mid July, Ella’s List has raised more than $10,000 in less than two months, according to papers filed with the State Elections Enforcement Commission.
“Across Connecticut we’ve found talented women including municipal office holders, leaders of town boards, schools, religious and volunteer organizations, who’ve made the commitment to run for and serve as the Mayor or First Selectman of their cities and towns,’’ said Michelle Parente DiMartino, the PAC’s treasurer.
The list of endorsed candidates includes well-established politicians such as New Haven Mayor Toni Harp and West Hartford Mayor Shari Cantor as well as newcomers.
The PAC is named in honor of three well-known “Ellas:” Isabella Beecher Hooker, Bella Abzug and Ella T. Grasso.
In addition to financial support, the PAC provides endorsed candidates with campaign advice and guidance from top women leaders across the state.
