Janet Bolles Rothmann

Janet Bolles Rothmann left us with a song in her heart on August 30th in Avon, CT, surrounded by her loving family, who were singing her to heaven. Janet was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on May 27, 1931, to Harold and Marjorie Bolles, and grew up in Woronoco, MA. She earned her Bachelors degree in Recreational Leadership from the University of Massachusetts, where she was a Chi Omega member, and worked as a professional Girl Scout and camp director. She served as Vice President of the Simsbury Light Opera, Secretary of the Simsbury Recreation Council, and member of the Simsbury Cultural Committee. Janet was a consummate musician - gracing the Simsbury Light Opera and Simsbury Theater Guild stages as a leading lady, harmonizing with her sisters, singing her rich alto in church choirs, teaching voice lessons in her home, and entertaining nursing home residents. She could make any gathering special with her beautiful 'by-ear' piano playing and vast knowledge of show tunes and all styles of american music. Janet was happiest being with family and swimming in the cold natural pool at "The Farm," the family retreat in the Berkshires. She never forgot a birthday and had a knack for giving the perfect gift. Her appreciation for handsome men was exceeded only by her love of ice cream and cookies. Janet married Warren Rothmann on September 3, 1955, and they raised four children in Simsbury, CT. Janet is survived by her children, Kimberly (Eric) Johnson of Evergreen, CO, Bonita Rothmann of Simsbury, Douglas (Margot) Rothmann of Avon, and Peter Rothmann of Canton; grandchildren Jared Rothmann, Kevin Johnson, Luke Johnson, Tucker Rothmann, Enya Goehring, Oliver Rothmann, Sawyer Rothmann, and Aidan Goehring; and great-grandson Julian Johnson. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday September 4 at 11:00 am at First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to Gifts of Love (www.giftsoflovect.org) in Avon, CT or to The Girl Scouts of Connecticut (www.gsofct.org) in Hartford, CT.
