Frances Eileen Griffin

May 24, 1943 - September 5, 2018 Franny, Frances, Mum and her most cherished name, Nana, left this earthly adventure to begin a new one on September 5th, 2018. Her spirit and love for all living things will be carried on by her husband of 56 years, COL (Ret.) John R. Griffin of Newington and her daughters, Nancylee Griffin and Elizabeth Griffin Foster of Newington. Her grandchildren, Alex Foster, Griffin Colopy, Rachel Foster, Mia Colopy, Paris Colopy and Grayson Foster were the loves of her life and her greatest blessing. She is survived as well by siblings, Kathleen Salzberg, Martha Martin, Barbara Costa, JoAnn Rienzie and Michael Donaghey as well as nieces and nephews, David Jr, Peter, and Maggie Salzberg, Laura Buckman, Gregory Martin, Nicole and Adam Rienzie, Michelle, Ruth and Faith Donaghey. She is predeceased by her sister Patricia Donaghey. Frances graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Nursing from Greater Hartford Community College and worked with adolescents in crisis at Newington Children's Hospital and Manchester Memorial Hospital. She gave her time volunteering at the CT Humane Society and rescued and provided homes to many lucky cats, dogs and horses. Nana will be remembered as a beautiful tomboy who loved to laugh, spend time with her family and travel the globe with her husband and dearest friends from Canton, Ma; Susan Marathas, Nancy Bender, Diane Jones, Ellen Galvin and Elaine Tasker. Nana was happiest at her Cape Beach house in Eastham with her daughters, husband and grandchildren. She will be with us in every sunset, every time a shelter dog finds a forever home, when her Red Sox slide into home, and in the beautiful faces of her loved ones. A special thank you to her amazing caretaker, Marina, whose attention and love has meant the world to all of us. We would also like to thank the kind staff at Middlewoods of Newington. Friends and family are invited to join us on September 15, 2018 between 3pm-6pm at Casa Mia at the Hawthorne at 2421 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin CT to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations be made to Brain Support Network, PO Box 7264, Menlo Park, CA 94026, www.brainsupportnetwork.org or to Out to Pasture Farm & Rescue Inc. P.O Box 310174 Newington, CT 06111, www.outtopasture.org
