Norwich Man Charged With Impeding Life Star Helicopter

NEW LONDON — A 38-year-old Norwich man who repeatedly tried to prevent the LifeStar helicopter from taking off from Lawrence and Memorial Hospital Friday afternoon was arrested, police said.

Jonathan Brand was charged with interfering with a heliport, reckless endangerment, first-degree trespass and breach of peace.

Police said they received a call from hospital security at 3:23 p.m. reporting that a man, later identified as Brand, was refusing to leave the cordoned-off area of the Life Star heliport and was preventing the helicopter from taking off so it could transfer a patient to another medical facility.

Brand eventually left the heliport area but then stood in the middle of the parking lot area and blocked vehicles from leaving, police said. He was then arrested.
