Man Goes To Sell Shoes, Gets Robbed, West Hartford Police Say

A man who went to sell shoes to a prospective buyer he met online was robbed at gunpoint Thursday night, police said Friday.

The man, in his early 20s, was not injured during the holdup, which happened about 9:50 p.m. on Lockwood Terrace near the Hartford line, police said.

The victim wanted to sell some footwear to the buyer, but ended up meeting more than one person — and at least one of them pulled a gun, police said.

Hartford has had series of robberies during transactions between strangers who met through websites and apps like Craigslist and OfferUp. In an attempt to prevent such holdups, city police in 2015 began inviting people who want to conduct transactions with strangers to do so at the police station at 253 High St.
