Fire in convicted arsonist's cell quickly doused

A small fire in a cell at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution Thursday night was quickly doused, a state Department of Correction spokeswoman said.

No one was hurt. Preliminary information, agency spokeswoman Karen Martucci said, is that “the offender occupying the cell is serving a sentence for arson.”

Local firefighters responded, but prison staff were able to douse the blaze on their own, Martucci said. The incident is being investigated, she said.
