Fire officials in Stratford said they are investigating the cause of a fire on Melville Street late Saturday afternoon where a man was found dead.
Firefighters responded to the fire at 25 Melville St. just before 5 p.m. Saturday and discovered the body of man on the second floor of the home, Assistant Fire Chief Michael Camperlengo said Sunday.
The identity of the man was not released Sunday.
The fire was extinguished by 5:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Camperlengo said it is likely that the blaze started on the second floor.
Two other people who lived in the house were not home at the time of the fire, he said.
Several dogs were rescued from the fire and were unharmed, Camperlengo said.
Milford and Bridgeport fire departments also were called to assist in extinguishing the fire.
