Landin Rutledge, 21, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant charging him with first-degree assault and second-degree assault, police said. His bail was set at $100,000.
According to police, the brawl happened about 1:45 a.m. Aug. 19 in a municipal parking lot in Southington Center. Rutledge and the 24-year-old victim were involved in a fight during which Rutledge threw the punch that dropped him.
While the man was on the ground, “Rutledge allegedly ‘stomped’ on Victim #1’s head,” police said.
As this was happening, an acquaintance of Rutledge’s punched a second man, causing a cut to the 21-year-old victim’s eye, police said.
Both injured men were taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut’s New Britain General campus. The 24-year-old was treated for serious head injuries and the 21-year-old for the cut to his eye.
The 24-year-old was released from the hospital after several days of treatment and was well enough to be interviewed by police, Sgt. Jeffrey Dobratz said.
Police continue to investigate. They don’t know the name of Rutledge’s acquaintance, they said.
