A juvenile driving a stolen car forced a police car off the road crashed into two other vehicles on Route 44 while fleeing Tuesday afternoon, authorities said. The crash happened near 51 East Main St., police said.
The driver was arrested after officers caught the stolen car with “stop sticks,” police said.
Around 3 p.m., police reported that a white Toyota Camry had been stolen from Farmington. Avon police found the car heading west on Route 44 and tried to stop it. As the driver fled north on Nod Road, the car suddenly turned around and drove into the path of an Avon police detective’s car. The police car drove off the road to dodge the oncoming car, according to a police release.
The driver continued and hit two cars on East Main Street before the stop sticks brought the chase to a half and the driver was arrested. People inside those cars sustained minor injuries, police said.
One westbound lane of Route 44 was closed for several hours as police investigated.
