New Haven Man Charged With Robbery, Kidnapping Of Two 19-Year-Old Women

A New Haven man accused of robbing two 19-year-old women at a North Haven gas station and then forcing them to drive to Hartford was arrested Monday, police said.

Keith Johnson, 53, was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, first-degree robbery, robbery of an occupied vehicle, first-degree threatening and criminal possession of a firearm. He was held in lieu of $500,000 bail.

On Sept. 29 two women were getting gas at a Washington Avenue gas station when a man armed with a gun, later identified as Johnson, approached the two and demanded money, police said.

The women gave Johnson all the money they had but Johnson ordered them into the car and pointed the gun towards the drivers head, giving her directions to travel north on I-91, police said.

The woman drove until Johnson told her to stop and get in the back seat. He drove for a short time before dropping the women off in a Hartford neighborhood, police said.

Johnson is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Meriden on Tuesday, police said.
