One Dead, One Injured In New Haven Double-Shooting, Police Say

One man died and another was wounded in a double shooting Tuesday night in New Haven, where the victims were found in a parked car, police said.

Ronald Wayne Matheney, 37, of Hamden, was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital after the shooting, where he died.

The other man, Corey Bland, also was taken to Yale-New Haven, where he initially was listed in critical condition, police said. His condition later was upgraded to stable, Officer David Hartman said. Bland, who also is from Hamden, was alert and conscious.

According to Hartman, the shooting happened about 10:45 p.m. on Wadley Street when Matheney was in the driver’s seat and Bland was in the passenger seat. Matheney was shot multiple times; Bland was shot in the arm, thigh and leg.

Detectives remained on the scene all night, gathering evidence and interviewing people, Hartman said. They are asking for the public’s help in solving the case.

Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 203-946-6304. Calls may be made anonymously, Hartman said.
