New Britain police say they have a charged a city man with the attempted robbery of two businesses last Friday before successfully getting money from a package store while brandishing a chisel.
Larry Lopez, 42, was charged with multiple counts of robbery, attempted robbery and assault, New Britain police said.
Officers were first called to the TD Bank on Main Street about 4:20 p.m. last Friday after receiving complaints of a suspicious man wearing a mask, police said.
When confronted by employees, the man left the bank.
About 15 minutes later, officers were called to the KFC on West Main Street for reports of an assault.
A man climbed through the ceiling in the bathroom to an employee area where he confronted two workers while carrying a small sledge hammer. The man, again, was wearing a mask.
Though he demanded money, police said he fled without getting any csh.
At 5:15 p.m., police said the were called to the Step Up Package Store on Oak Street for a masked man robbing the business.
The owner said the man entered, chisel in hand, and went for the cash register.
Police said the suspect made off with an unspecified amount of cash.
Investigators later determined that Lopez was the suspect in all the crimes, police said.
He was charged Friday and held on $1.1 million bail.
