Police: DUI Driver Slams Into Police Vehicle On Farmington Highway

A 24-year-old woman who police say was driving while under influence slammed into the back of a police vehicle traveling on I-84 in Farmington with its emergency lights on Wednesday night, state police said.

The trooper, Steven Michael Chapman, 46, was taken to Hartford Hospital to be checked for possible injuries. The driver of the car, Alexandra K. Warzecho was arrested.

Warzecho, of the Terryville section of Plymouth, was charged with operating while under the influence, following too close, failure to slow or move over for an emergency vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia, state police said. She posted $2,500 bail and is due in Superior Court in Hartford Sept. 19.

According to the state police, the crash happened shortly before 9:40 p.m. when the trooper was driving east in the right lane of I-84 behind a construction vehicle. Although the state police vehicle’s emergency lights were on, Warzecho’s Acura ILX 20 crashed into the back of the 2013 Ford F-350 pick-up “at a high rate of speed,” police said.

Warzecho admitted she had been drinking alcohol before the crash, police said.
