Whale Bowl 2011 Extended Highlights



1.In this extended highlights we feature the 2011 Whale Bowl. Which started with the Alumni game, featuring the Whalers alumni.2.Taking on a familiar foe, the Boston Bruins Alumni.3.Like any of all-star game there was plenty of scoring. Here Yvon Corriveau puts the back hand top shelf to give the Whale a 1-0 lead.4. But the fans came here more for the players than the action.5.Guys like Wayne Babych.6.And his younger brother and two-time all-star Dave Babych.(Babych sound)7.12 year NHL veteran and Enfield High School Grad Craig Janney.8.And with a smile on his face the whole game, stanley cup champion Pat Verbeek.9.And another Stanley Cup champion and hockey hall of fameer the pride of Chesire Connecticut Brian Leetch. (Leetch \BabychLLeetch sound)10.Three guys that didn't keep their sticks on the ice, crowd favorite the Hansen Brothers where up to their usual tricks.11.And one of the surprise performances was from celeb screen writer Bobby Farrelly. Here he robs Craig Janney as he stood on his head in goal for the Whalers.12.And although the two teams kissed their sisters with the tie. 13.The fans that braved the cold loved every minute.14.Then it was time for the main event. AHL history as the Connecticut Whale.15.Fittingly faced off against arch rival the Providence Bruins.16. And the boys wasted no time in getting down to business. (pause)Here Kris Newbury gets the big hit to start the game.17. Just past the mid point of the first period. Dale Weise pressures the puck deep in the zone. He causes a turnover. And Tim Kennedy capitalizes on for the first goal.(pause reaction)18.Than less than :30 left in the period. Devin Didiomte with the shot. And Jyri Niemi cleans up the rebound to a wide open net. So pack lead 2-0.19.So fans get a chance to dance and get warm as the period ends.20.Now in the second just over a minute gone. Providence's Jamie Arniel flips the centering pass to Maxime Sauve. Who redirects the puck through Dov Grumet-Morris's five hole for the goal. The score now 2-1 Whale.21.Just five minutes later Bruins again on the attack. Jordan LaVallee-Smotherman starts a scrum in front of the net. And some how forces the puck into the net to tie the game at 2-2.22. So now its the Bruins fans chance to move and get warm.23.And you just knew on a stage like this a couple guys couldn't resist. Connecticut's Jared Nightingale and Providence's Nathan Mclver keep the rivaliry alive.24.Then just shy of the midway point of the period. Arniel with the pass and Jeremy Reich taps the loose puck in for the go ahead score. So the Bruins put three goals on net in a eight minutes stretch of the second period.25. Three minutes later the Whale come right back. Jeremy Williams squares up at the blue line. And the shot goes past the Weise screen into the net to tie the game 3-3.26.Then less than a minute later. Ryan Garlock from behind the net sets up Jared Nightingale. Who somehow squeezes the puck into the net for the go head goal. 27. So we end the second period with the Whale up 4-3.28.Bruins would tie the game in the third so we go to overtime. Whale with a 4-3 power play, Jeremy Williams just misses a chance to end it. 29.So its on to a shoot out. Both teams go 0-4 to start the shoot out. Then the Bruins Maxime Sauve beats Grumet-Morris with the fake and the back hand. And maybe a little celebration as he heads back to the bench.30.Last chance for the Whale. Jeremy Williams starts left, the fake and the flip misses the net completely. So the Providence Bruins win the 2011 Whale Bowl 5-4 in a shootout.
