Atlanta rapper Future takes autotune software to new places, bending the pitch and warping the tone of his voice, turning it into melodic and rhythmic fragments that get layered against chopped-up robotic hi-hat patterns and ominous horror-movie piano snippets.
Future has a kind of burbling percolating flow, liquid, murky and steady. There’s a druggy cloud hanging over many of his tracks. This month, Future achieved an impressive feat when his new record, “EVOL,” earned a No. 1 on the Billboard album chart after being released exclusively on Apple Music and iTunes for its first week.
He has collaborated with Drake, Kanye West, Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, the Weeknd and other hip-hop giants.
