At this year’s Grammy Awards, country music veteran Dwight Yoakam looked as cool as ever, duetting with double nominee Brandy Clark, not-smiling from under his trademark, eye-obscuring cowboy hat. It was Clark’s time in the spotlight (she didn’t win either award), but Yoakam had been there before; his recording of “Ain’t That Lonely Yet,” written by Kostas and James House, was the Best Male Country Vocal Performance of 1994.

Nearly two decades later, on 2012’s “3 Pears,” the versatile musician/actor collaborated with Beck, Kid Rock and Pistol Annies’ Ashley Monroe. And “Second Hand Heart,” the title track and first single from his forthcoming album, finds him in Springsteen/Petty territory, with twangy guitars mixed way out front of his earthy croon. Yoakam plays the Palace Theater in Waterbury on Wednesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m.; tickets start at $38. Information here.
