Three of this week’s offerings from Cafe Nine in New Haven:

Guitar George: Ace guitarist George Baker had a noteworthy career as a touring R&B bandleader for everyone from Marvin Gaye to a host of ’60s revival acts, and even accompanied Sammy Davis Jr. Since the early ’90s, Baker’s been based in New Haven, where he holds forth regularly at Cafe Nine, playing his singular blues/jazz/R&B sounds. His last album, “Mojo Lady” in 2006, got frequent airplay on the BET Jazz channel. A new live disk, “A Night to Remember,” gets a release party Friday, Nov. 20, 9 p.m. at the cafe. Admission is $5.

Mates Of State: The internationally respected dance-pop trio Mates of State, fronted by the married couple of keyboardist Kori Gardner and percussionist Jason Hammmel, calls Connecticut home. They’ve played while fireworks burst in the air at the Meriden Daffodil Festival, and were one of the first Connecticut acts to play the new College Street Music Hall. The band has a new EP, “You’re Going To Make It,” as well as a greatest hits album, “Greats,” out on the Barsuk label. The Northampton-based female pop trio And the Kids open at the cafe at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21. Tickets are $15, $12 in advance.

Turner Toots: Rock flutist Nik Turner was a founding member of the essential space-rock outfit Hawkwind, playing from 1969 to 1976, plus a brief stint in the early ’80s. Turner, who also plays sax and sings, has recorded more than a dozen solo albums and has guested on disks by everyone from Sham 69 to Sting to Space Mirrors. Turner plays the cafe at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24, with opening acts Hedersleben and MV & EE. Tickets are $18, $15 in advance.
