This autumn’s film series at the Wadsworth Atheneum, “Where in the World is J.P. Morgan?” focuses on places where the legendary financier worked, lived and bought art. The film being shown on Friday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. is the most specific of all: The climax of the action is set in the Morgan Library & Museum, where Morgan kept his books and papers and which was turned into a museum after his death.

Milos Forman’s 1981 drama “Ragtime” tells interweaving stories that took place at the turn of the 20th century in New York City: stories of black rebellion, female rebellion and violent uprising, as well as the true story of the murder of architect Stanford White by Harry K. Thaw, and the involvement of chorus girl Evelyn Nesbit in the sensational killing.

The movie, which is rated PG, will be shown at 8 p.m. at the museum at 600 Main St. in Hartford. Admission is free.

Those who show up at 5 p.m. can buy snacks and drinks in the pop-up Bar Car, tour the exhibit “Morgan: Mind of the Collector” and watch a comedy show by Sea Tea Improv. Turn-of-the-century costumes are encouraged. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes.

Also at the Atheneum this weekend is “Tipping the Velvet,” a three-part BBC series about the love story between two women in late 19th-century London. It will be shown Sunday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. The movie is being shown in collaboration with Out Film CT. The film will be preceded by a tour, at 12:30 p.m., of the Morgan exhibit. Admission is $9, $8 seniors and students, $7 members, free for Insider Access and above. thewadsworth.org.
