It was inevitable: “Sharknado” was declared an instant schlock classic when it was released on Syfy in 2013, and became a natural for the riffing team of RiffTrax. A sequel came out in 2014, and RiffTrax is stepping up to the blood-splattered plate again.

“Sharknado 2: The Second One,” has essentially the same plot as “Sharknado,” transplanted from Los Angeles to New York City. Ian Ziering and Tara Reid must battle a tornado that drops a swirling miasma of sharks onto the Big Apple.

The RiffTrax team is Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett, formerly of “Mystery Science Theater 3000.”

“Sharknado 2” will be shown on Thursday, July 9, at 8 p.m. at Cinerom Torrington, AMC Danbury 16, Carmike Lisbon in Jewett City, Cinemark Buckland Hills in Manchester, Connecticut Post 14 in Milford, Cinemark North Haven, Stonington 10 in Pawcatuck, Cinemark Enfield, AMC Brass Mill 12 in Waterbury and Carmike Bloomfield. Admission is $12.50, $11.50 seniors and students, $10.50 children.

A rerun on Thursday, July 16, at 7:30 p.m. will be in Danbury, Jewett City, Pawcatuck, Torrington, Waterbury, Bloomfield and Branford only, for the same prices. fathomevents.com.
