Oliver Stone’s new movie, “Snowden,” will be released nationwide on Friday, Sept. 16. Those who are especially fascinated with governmental whistleblower Edward Snowden have a special treat on Wednesday, Sept. 14: A sneak preview screening accompanied by a live Q&A between Stone and Snowden, who now lives in asylum in Russia, as he has been charged with violating the Espionage Act of 1917 and theft of government property.

Snowden, a former employee of the CIA, made worldwide headlines in 2013 when he leaked classified information detailing a massive surveillance program operated by the NSA.

The R-rated movie — based on the books “The Snowden Files” by Luke Harding and “Time of the Octopus” by Anatoly Kucherena and starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt — will be shown at 7:30 p.m. at Brass Mill 12 in Waterbury, AMC Danbury 16, Lisbon 12, Cinemark Buckland Hills in Manchester, Cinemark Enfield, Cinemark North Haven, Connecticut Post 14 in Milford, Stonington 10, Cinerom Torrington, Branford 12 and Bloomfield 8.
