The Packing House, an art and performance space in a repurposed mill in Willington, will show a classic jazz biopic this weekend.
“Bird,” from 1988, stars Forest Whitaker as saxophonist Charlie Parker. The drama is directed by Clint Eastwood. It also stars East Hartford native Diane Venora in her most acclaimed role, as Parker’s wife Chan. Venora won the best supporting actress award from the New York Film Critics Circle and was nominated for a Golden Globe award.
The movie will be shown on Friday, March 4, at 7 p.m. at the venue at 156 River Road. Admission is a suggested donation of $5. Snasks will be sold, and beer and wine can be brought in BYOB, with a $5 corkage/bottle fee. Table reservations: 518-791-9474. thepackinghouse.us.
