Mark Landis is one of the world’s most prolific art forgers, having donated dozens of alleged masterpieces to American museums for decades, all of them paintings he replicated himself.

A documentary playing Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14, at Real Art Ways in Hartford profiles Landis and why he did what he did. Unlike most art forgers, who commit their crimes for profit and sometimes revenge, Landis’ forging activities arise from his psychological instability.

“Art and Craft” will be shown at 4:20 p.m. both days at the art space at 56 Arbor St. in Hartford.

It’s going to be an unusually busy weekend at Real Art Ways’ cinema. A new short-film compilation, “British Arrows Awards,” opens on Friday, Dec. 12. The Swedish domestic drama “Force Majeure” is extending its run by a week, and the wartime drama “Diplomacy” and the Edward Snowden documentary “Citizenfour” each will be shown once on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14. Sea Tea Improv will do a live riff on a bad Christmas movie at 8 p.m. on Monday. Details: www.realartways.org.
