Maple Giant Grinder in Hartford, home to massive sandwiches, pizzas, pastas and other Italian fare, has announced it will close its city location Sept. 30.

Owner Rick Lavoie says he plans to move the restaurant out of Hartford and that he’s looking at spaces in suburban areas, including Berlin and Rocky Hill.

“In order to stay in business, we have to move,” he said. “It’s very expensive to do business in Hartford.”

Maple Giant has been in its Adelaide Street building since 1984, said Lavoie, who has owned the business for five years. He said the move to a suburb would likely take a few months.

“We are looking every day for a new home,” reads a message on Maple Giant’s website. “When we find a new place we will put it right here and our Facebook page.”
