Smashburger will open in Manchester Feb. 24, marking the third location of the "better burger" chain in Connecticut and the first to open in Hartford County. The restaurant at 440 Buckland Hills Drive officially opens Wednesday after an 11 a.m. ribbon cutting.
Smashburger gets its name from its preferred cooking method: certified Angus beef smashed on a 400-degree flattop grill. Burgers with a variety of toppings and preparations (avocado club, truffle mushroom Swiss, spicy jalapeño Baja with guacamole; buffalo and blue cheese) are available with beef, grilled or crispy chicken, or black bean patties. The"Husky Burger," customized for the Manchester location, is made with beef or chicken topped with American cheese, mayonnaise, hot pepper relish, red onions, lettuce and smoked applewood bacon.
The menu also includes fresh salads and sides like "Smashfries" with olive oil, garlic and rosemary; haystack onions, sweet potato fries, veggie frites and fried pickles. Smashburger also features milkshakes with Haagen-Dazs ice cream, root beer floats and a selection of beer and wine.
The quickly-growing chain now has more than 350 restaurants in the United States. Smashburger Manchester will be franchised by The Mohegan Holding Company, LLC, a business diversification company owned and operated by the Mohegan Tribe. Mohegan Holding also owns and operates Smashburgers in Waterford and Warwick, R.I., along with Arooga's in Uncasville and Jersey Mike's Subs in Meriden, Norwich and at Mohegan Sun. Another Smashburger is in Milford at 1590 Boston Post Road.
The Manchester restaurant will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 860-644-1591, smashburger.com.
