Besito In Blue Back Square Closes

Besito in West Hartford's Blue Back Square has closed its doors, according to a statement on its website.

"After nearly a decade and with a heavy heart, we are sad to announce that we were unable to re-negotiate our lease at Blue Back Square and are closing our doors in our beloved West Hartford location," the post reads. "We cannot thank you enough for this and your unforgettable part in our continuing journey...We look forward to seeing you all very soon in our many New York & Massachusetts locations."

Representatives for Blue Back Square did not immediately return requests for comment, and a representative for the Besito restaurants referred to the statement on the website. Besito founder John Tunney's restaurant at Mohegan Sun, BALLO Italian, remains open.

John Rieger, the restaurant's co-owner, said they were unable to renegotiate the lease, and felt it was in the best interest to let the employees know today that they were closing. The restaurant employed 35 to 45 people, he said, and he expressed interest in returning to the area in the future.

The upscale Mexican restaurant opened in 2009 at 46 S. Main St. in West Hartford and became known for its stylish modern cuisine and cocktails.
