Sarah's Coffee House Hosting Fundraiser During Parade

Hartford's @SarahsCoffeeCT hosts fundraiser during St. Patrick's parade Saturday

Sarah's Coffee House is planning its soft opening on Hartford's Asylum Street April 16, but the independent coffee shop will give the city a preview Saturday with a one-day fundraiser event during the rescheduled St. Patrick's Day Parade.

The shop opens at 7 a.m. with coffee, pastries from Bread Box Bakery & Pastry in Manchester and treats from NoRA Cupcake Company in Middletown. At 9 a.m., beer will be available for purchase, and Sarah's will remain open throughout the parade. An afterparty with DJ Oreo kicks off at 8 p.m.

A portion of proceeds from every drink sold will help provide a meal for a child in need, in conjunction with the JMJ Group Foundation.

Sarah's Coffee House, founded by Uyen Mai, promises a socially-conscious mission "which affirms the dignity of individuals while practicing the principles of subsidiarity through a sustainable agribusiness development system," according to its website. Coffee beans are sourced directly from farm families and co-ops, and a percentage of profits will go to nonprofit organizations for charitable works. 257 Asylum St., 866-645-0180,
