Sarah's Coffee House is planning its soft opening on Hartford's Asylum Street April 16, but the independent coffee shop will give the city a preview Saturday with a one-day fundraiser event during the rescheduled St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The shop opens at 7 a.m. with coffee, pastries from Bread Box Bakery & Pastry in Manchester and treats from NoRA Cupcake Company in Middletown. At 9 a.m., beer will be available for purchase, and Sarah's will remain open throughout the parade. An afterparty with DJ Oreo kicks off at 8 p.m.
A portion of proceeds from every drink sold will help provide a meal for a child in need, in conjunction with the JMJ Group Foundation.
Sarah's Coffee House, founded by Uyen Mai, promises a socially-conscious mission "which affirms the dignity of individuals while practicing the principles of subsidiarity through a sustainable agribusiness development system," according to its website. Coffee beans are sourced directly from farm families and co-ops, and a percentage of profits will go to nonprofit organizations for charitable works. 257 Asylum St., 866-645-0180, sarahcoffeehouse.com.
