Newington's newest restaurant has a bit of West Hartford Center flair. KC Ward, formerly of Restaurant Bricco, and his wife, Jaime, have opened Rooster Company, an eatery focusing on rotisserie chicken, at 1076 Main St.
Rooster Company, which celebrated its grand opening on Feb. 4, occupies the space that once housed Black Rose Tavern. The centerpiece of its menu is locally sourced organic chicken (available in half and whole sizes) with sauces like fire lemon glaze, garden herbs in walnut oil and cola barbecue. Jaime Ward says the idea behind the chicken was that it was "approachable, affordable, something you could have every day."
A section of main plates ($10.95 to $26.95) features a free-range omelet, maple-glazed organic salmon, Allen Bros. strip steak, wild shrimp and polenta, truffle mac and cheese. A Waldorf chicken sandwich on challah is also available, along with a cheddar-topped burger. Rooster Company's menu is rounded out by a variety of salads and sides (fries, green beans, farro salad, charred Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, Boulangier potatoes.)
Bar snacks like wings, crispy calamari, tuna tartare and country pate partner well with Rooster Company's extensive beverage options: craft beer, interesting wines and unique cocktails. The bar offers happy hour specials on small plates and snacks.
Rooster Company plans to work with a network of local farms and producers, including Newington's own Eddy Farm, Anderson Farm of Wethersfield, Marwin Farm of New Hartford, Baggott Farm and Broad Brook Beef of East Windsor and N. Atlantic Wild Fisheries.
A Sunday brunch launches this weekend at 10:30 a.m., with dishes like fried buttermilk chicken and waffles, lobster benedict, stuffed French toast, a breakfast burrito and special cocktails.
Rooster Company is open Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. (the bar is open later.) Information: 860-757-3969, roostercompany.net.
