Rich caramel meets apple, honey and spice in the latest treat from Connecticut's Munson's Chocolates, with an alcoholic twist.
Munson's has teamed up with Onyx Spirits for its new seasonal item, infused with the East Hartford distillery's fall-favorite Apple Honey moonshine. The milk-chocolate covered Apple Honey Caramel is enhanced with the flavored spirit and fresh apple cider, according to a news release.
For a second consecutive year, Onyx plans to release the Apple Honey moonshine, made with local Honeycrisp apples from Blue Hills Orchard in Wallingford, in the first week of October.
"We are highly motivated by all things moonshine and chocolate," said Onyx Moonshine co-founder Adam von Gootkin in a statement. "Teaming up with Munson's was a natural partnership and once again, Connecticut is home to delicious innovation."
Jim Florence, Munson's vice president of sales and marketing, said the chocolate company had been looking for a product that would be enhanced by flavored moonshine -"and when Onyx launched their Apple Honey Infusion, we knew we had the makings of a fabulous new seasonal specialty," he said.
This isn't the first time Munson's has teamed up with a Connecticut company for a sweet collaboration. Their Beer Brittle is made exclusively with lager from Bloomfield's Thomas Hooker Brewery, and Hooker's seasonal Chocolate Truffle Stout is made with Munson's proprietary cocoa powder and cocoa nibs.
The caramels will be in Munson's stores for a limited time, with a retail price of $22.98 per pound. Stores are in Bolton, Simsbury, Newington, Mystic, Orange, South Windsor, Glastonbury, West Hartford, and Westfarms Mall. Information: munsonschocolates.com.
