J. Timothy's Named Top National Spot For Wings

New list names J. Timothy's "dirt wings" among the best in the country

A year after earning props from The Daily Meal for its famous "dirt wings," J. Timothy's has made another national list for "America's finest fowl."

Thrillist has named the Plainville restaurant and bar as one of its "21 Best Wing Joints In The Country,"  noting the unique preparation of its signature dish.

"The dirt on J. Timothy's is dirt. That's what this Connecticut institution calls its signature fried-sauced-fried-again preparation, allegedly named after the oldest player on a softball team of bar regulars. The result is delicious: that double-deep-fried shell finishes a few shades darker than hot-sauce orange and delivers super-crisp bites," editors wrote. 

J. Timothy's shares space on the list with Bar Bill Tavern (a western New York spot chosen seemingly because it's not the Anchor Bar, where buffalo wings were reportedly invented) and Pok Pok, home of trademark Thai-style fish-sauce wings that inspired expansion of the restaurant from Portland, Ore. to New York and Los Angeles. 

This year, J. Timothy's earned local honors for Best Wings in both the CTNow Best of Hartford and Best of Hartford Magazine readers' polls. The restaurant is at 143 New Britain Avenue. 860-747-6813, jtimothys.com.
