Cocktail Specials Commemorate Prohibition Repeal Day

Drink like it's 1933 on Friday, by celebrating Prohibition repeal at these local bars

It's been 81 years since Prohibition was repealed on Dec. 5, 1933. To celebrate the ratification of the 21st Amendment, several restaurants and bars will offer drink specials Friday.

In Glastonbury, Rooftop 120's "Happy Hour Takeover" from 5 to 7 p.m. features four special Onyx Moonshine cocktails, including regular and blackberry mojitos, peach lemonade and "Ciderella" martini with fresh apple cider. Each drink is $8. rooftop120.com

The Tavern Downtown in Hartford hosts a repeal party from 7 p.m. to close, with special Prohibition-era drinks featuring Tap 357 Maple Rye and Onyx Moonshine. They'll also offer $5 specials (with $3 mason jar refills) on Coors Banquet Beer and Smith & Forge Cider. thetaverndowntown.com.

A Prohibition repeal party at Tavern at the Exchange in Farmington features $7 cocktails from 5 p.m. to close. Drinks include the Bootlegger (Onyx Moonshine, fresh lemon, honey syrup and iced tea); Gin Rickie, Al Capone and Bee's Knees. Several New Haven spots will offer special "vintage" cocktails Friday, each priced at $8. Participants include Stone Hearth, Oak Haven Table & Bar, ROIA Restaurant, Temple Grill, Ordinary, 116 Crown, The Owl Shop, Bar, Prime 16, Kelly's and Cask Republic.
