Preventing the Summer Slide

My daughters last day of her first year of preschool is tomorrow.

Her teachers hosted the cutest graduation ceremony for all the 3 and 4 year olds yesterday. The kids performed several songs demonstrating much of what they've spent the school year learning. They were all smiles and beamed with as much pride as the parents did.  When it was all over, her teachers reminded us of the summer homework and suggested reading they packed for us in their backpacks. It includes all kinds of activities and suggested books to prevent the so-called summer slide; when kids fall behind in their reading and math skills from June to September. In fact, The National Summer Learning Association is trying to keep kids' brains engaged while they're out of the classroom with Summer Learning Day, scheduled for this Friday, June 19th.  The Association spoke with U.S. News And World Report, asking folks to use the hashtag #KeepKidsLearning with ideas and resources.
