I was never allowed to have a TV in my room growing up.
Those were the days before laptops, cell phones and of course, smartphones.
I never asked my parents why, but I think it's a good idea, and one that I'm passing along to my children, along with a number of other "screen time" restrictions.
No TV before bed, no games on our phones, just books. I want to encourage my children to be avid readers and already, at 3 and 1, they love scrolling through books and my oldest, reciting what it's about from memory.
Now, according to this article, that smartphone has no business in bed. Researchers found it inhibited children's sleep, which can lead to a host of other problems.
It's easy for me to say, since my daughters are young, but if I set some ground rules now, they'll be used to it by the time they're teenagers, right?!
