Here is a lovely tribute to a teacher/coach/motivator who made a difference in the lives of hundreds of people throughout his 40-year career.
As a member of his track team a few decades ago, I wasn't much of an athlete. It's amazing, though, how much influence a good teacher can have on a student, even if it takes a few years for their words of wisdom to sink in. Today, when I'm halfway through a 5K and I contemplate walking instead of running or even quitting altogether, it's George Croft's words that keep me focused: "Pump your arms! Widen your stride!"
Thanks, teachers, for all you do. Even though your advice might not sink in right away, our kids really are listening.
