Outkast and Calvin Harris will join Eminem, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon and Skrillex as headliners Aug. 1-3 at Lollapalooza. If that sounds a bit familiar, it should — five of the six top acts have played Lollapalooza before.
The latter four acts were first reported by the Tribune last week. The complete 130-band lineup for the three-day festival’s 10th year in Grant Park, announced Wednesday by Texas-based promoter C3 Presents, includes rising stars Lorde, Chance the Rapper and Krewella. With the exception of Outkast, the headliners have all played Lollapalooza at least once before. Two have previously headlined — Eminem in 2011 and Kings of Leon in 2009. Among the artists announced to complete the lineup are Spoon, Foster the People, the Avett Brothers and Cage the Elephant. There is a smattering of hip-hop, including Nas and Childish Gambino, and a heavy dose of electronic music, beginning with the main-stage headliners Skrillex and Harris, as well as Zedd, Sebastian Ingrosso, Above & Beyond, Z-Trip and Flume. The Chicago-based acts besides Chance the Rapper and Krewella include Vic Mensa and Flosstradamus.
With 24 as the average age of Lollapalooza-goers (10 years younger than the average fan who attends the Austin City Limits Festival also promoted by C3), the lineup skews younger and more dance-oriented than many North American rock festivals.
Lolla is expected to once again reach capacity of 100,000 for each day to see 130 bands and artists perform on eight stages. Here’s each day’s lineup:

The quick take
: Eminem returns to the main stage he occupied at Lolla in 2011, while the Arctic Monkeys jump up to festival headliners for the first time in North America. Lorde just may be the most popular act of the day, riding a wave of momentum this year with two Grammys and a sold-out theater tour that recently played the Aragon. As usual, the festival is defined by its up-and-comers, and early arrivals should run to catch the gifted Chicago MC Vic Mensa, Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett, British psychedelic rockers Temples, and U.K. producer Dev Hynes’ Blood Orange.

The quick take:
The Southern hip-hop pioneers of Outkast are hitting the road for the first time in a decade, so the reunion of Big Boi and Andre 3000 qualifies as an event. Harris, the Scottish DJ and Lolla veteran, has crossed over from club popularity onto the pop charts by collaborating with Rihanna, Florence + the Machine and Ne Yo, among others. Chicago trio Krewella has become one of the biggest electro acts of the last two years with a blend of pop vocals and high-energy rhythms. Not to be missed early in the day: rough-edged New Orleans singer-songwriter Benjamin Booker; trippy U.K. electronic act Jungle; and Parquet Courts, which released one of the best guitar-based rock albums of 2013, “Light up Gold,” with a follow-up due this year.

The quick take:
Kings of Leon headlined in 2009, and they’re back, continuing the pattern of overfamiliarity that taints this year’s top tier at Lolla. Skrillex makes his third appearance at the festival (under his own name in 2011, and then with side project Dog Blood last year). Chance the Rapper should rule, though, on a bigger stage than he occupied at an overflow 2013 appearance. Also expect strong sets from Darkside (DJ Nicolas Jaar and multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington); Run the Jewels, which pairs Killer Mike and El-P; and New Orleans R&B maestro Trombone Shorty.
