About A La Carte

About A La Carte

Connecticut is the birthplace of the hamburger. It's home to more than two dozen wineries, nationally renowned pizza, steamed cheeseburgers, two-foot-long hot dogs, shucked-from-the-shoreline oysters and rich, farm-fresh ice cream. With good eats from the Quiet Corner to the Gold Coast, it only makes sense that Nutmeg State cuisine deserves its own blog. We'll be covering restaurant news (openings, closings, menu changes); events featuring wine, beer and spirits; industry trends; freebies and much, much more. So we hope you're hungry, because we are.

About the bloggers

Leeanne Griffin is a freelance writer with a passion for anything edible. A Connecticut transplant by way of Worcester, Mass., she loves everything the Nutmeg State has to offer, particularly the Connecticut Wine Trail and local microbreweries. She is a 2006 alumna of the Quinnipiac University graduate journalism program, where she was first introduced to New Haven-style pizza. You'll find six or seven different cheeses in her refrigerator at any given time, and her most cherished kitchen appliance is her breadmaker. She is on a constant quest to find the best under-$15 bottles of wine in New England. She is also the author of the blog Fun With Carbs. Email Leeanne

I never considered myself a 'foodie," just a Connecticut born and bred, working reporter and mom of three (and now Nana to nearly six) who knew her way around the kitchen pretty well, could turn out a meal fit for company when the pressure was on and who surprisingly could be pretty discriminating when it came to choosing decent places to eat out.  I fell into writing the A La Carte column after spending more than 30 years at the Courant covering everything from schools and taxes to politics and celebrity divorces, with some food and lifestyle writing on the side. I also write the Java Blog for the Hartford Courant. Email Maryellen
