Penn State (8-4)

The season-ending Achilles' tendon injury to point guard Tim Frazier ended any hope the Nittany Lions had of pulling off some surprises. He was by far Penn State's best player. The offensive impotency is obvious as the Nittany Lions shoot just 40.7 percent, worst among Big Ten teams. Key player: Sophomore guard D.J. Newbill is having a solid season with 15.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Key stat: The Nittany Lions allow opponents to shoot 36.1 percent on 3-pointers. Big Ten opener: Thursday at Wisconsin.
