Driver struck hunter, then gets hit by vehicle in double pedestrian fatality

A Millington woman struck a Chestertown man while driving early Saturday on Route 544 in Queen Anne's County, and then was hit by another vehicle while calling 911, Maryland State Police said. Both were killed in the accidents.

The deceased were identified as Megan Pulleyn, 26, and Thomas Gustafson, 57.

Police said Pulleyn was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry west on Route 544 near Route 290 when she struck Gustafson, a hunter who was in the roadway at the time of the incident, according to a preliminary investigation. Gustafson was either standing in the roadway or walking across it, police said.

Pulleyn immediately stopped her vehicle, exited and began walking toward Gustafson while calling 911 on her cell phone.

Margaret Blankenship, 54, of Crumpton then struck both Pulleyn and Gustafson in her 2011 Jeep Compass. Blankenship had been traveling east on Route 544. She immediately stopped after the accident, police said.

Pulleyn was pronounced dead at the scene. Gustafson was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he later died. Blankenship was not injured.

State Police from the Centreville Barrack continue to investigate.
