For his exhibit in the Matrix gallery at Wadworth Atheneum, artist Mark Dion selected 125 artworks in the museum’s collection with depictions of animals, people and dieties. To poke fun at the old notion of a “Great Chain of Being,” he zeroed in on certain creatures by cropping out everything else in the artworks, photographing the details.
