The sixth annual Writers’ Weekend at the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, which was to take place Saturday and Sunday, has been postponed to an indefinite date in the spring due to low ticket sales, an official at the historic home reports.
Jennifer LaRue, director of marketing and public relations, said a date would be determined later.
“We’re woking on a keynote speaker that we want. We will build the weekend around his availability,” LaRue said.
LaRue said all ticket-buyers have received refunds. Admission to the workshop was $180; $160 for Twain House members.
The weekend began in 2011 as a springtime event. In 2016, it was moved to the fall because organizers didn’t have time to launch a spring event, LaRue said. This year’s event would have been the second autumn event.
“We decided that April is better,” LaRue said. “Last October, we bumped into conflicts with other writing conferences.”
The event this weekend was to have Jarrett Krosoczka as the keynote speaker. Other writers, poets and playwrights who had committed were Matthew Dicks, Pegi Deitz Shea, Dana Rau, Beth Richards, Jane Haertel, Sarah Merrill, Mary Collins, Bessy Reyna, Jacques Lamarre, Betsy Maguire, Tianna Glass-Tripp and Adam Szymkowicz.
