The third of six children from her father's first marriage, Madonna Ciccone, as she was known before her singular moniker, grew up in Michigan and moved to New York to pursue a dance career with only $35 in her pocket. Life in New York City wasn't easy and she scraped her way to get by before her big break. One job was selling pastries at a Dunkin' Donuts. She was later fired from the position for squirting jelly on customers.
