Ian McShane

Last TV role: "American Horror Story" (guest star, 2012) Why we want him back: Since hanging up Al Swearengen's union suit after three classic seasons on HBO's "Deadwood," McShane has only committed to one series regular gig: NBC's short-lived "Kings." Most recently, he was killer -- literally -- as a demented Santa on "American Horror Story: Asylum," but the two-episode guest role only reminded us how much we miss a weekly dose of McShane. Suggested role: We'd be thrilled if he joined the "AHS" repertory cast. But if that's not in the cards, maybe the lead in any of the ambitious period dramas currently in the works hoping to echo the success of various shows like "Game of Thrones," "Downton Abbey" and "Hatfields & McCoys." As long as the writing lives up to David Milch. -- Geoff Berkshire, Zap2it Getty Images
