You might not think it, but some of the most passionate TV fans on the planet are the ones addicted to the orgy of design shows on HGTV, the viewers who find themselves fantasizing about giving one of the featured designers carte blanche inside their own living spaces for a life-changing makeover.
Now, HGTV is making that fantasy a reality for some lucky megafans in "HGTV'd," one of three new series premiering Monday, June 6, on the channel.
"To 'HGTV' someone is to give them an over-the-top fantasy renovation of their chosen space that blows their socks off, something that they would never be able to do for themselves," explains Tanika Ray, the show's bubbly host. "That's what makes this show so beautiful on HGTV. Obviously we tell you how to do this and how to do that, the technical stuff, but this is the show that gives our ultimate fan everything they've ever wished for in their space."
Tens of thousands of eager fans have uploaded photos and videos to the HGTV.com website since casting calls went out last December, and the show's production team pairs such high-profile designers as Vern Yip, Sabrina Soto and David Bromstad with the fans selected to be on the show.
"We crashed the server, which we were very proud of," Ray says happily. "We were so excited to know that, even though the show hadn't even aired, we were up to 30,000 video submissions. I've worked with a lot in the business, from the biggest celebrities down to Sally-who-lives-next-door. Nothing gives me goosebumps more than to see a family get everything they wished for in their home and they start to cry -- or sometimes swear a little, like they have Tourette's and they can't help themselves."
Also premiering Monday: "My Yard Goes Disney," which surprises homeowners with a backyard makeover inspired by the happiest place on Earth, and "House Hunters on Vacation," which sends families on weeklong fantasy getaways.
