It is a common Hollywood occurrence that two scripts start simultaneously circulating that feature the same basic plot or idea. The latest example of this phenomenon is that apparently the world needs two Snow White retellings in 2012.
"Mirror Mirror," the wacky, light-hearted one, opened March 30 to fairly middling reviews and $62 million at the box office cumulative - not an overly impressive showing. "Snow White and the Huntsman" is the kick-butt action retelling, opening June 1. So far reviews for this one are only slightly better, but perhaps the draw of "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart will help its box office take.
Let's take a look at other dueling movies from years past.
